Mission
De Marque aims to be recognized by millions of people as the company that simplifies their lives by providing technological tools, which are innovative, user-friendly, and effective.
Background
De Marque was founded in 1990 by Marc Boutet and Guy Bergeron. They began working together on educational projects based on information technology integration. In 1991, they developed the first-ever version of a typing software for teaching typing at schools within the area of Quebec. The software became known as Typing Pal – today a worldwide bestseller in over 12 countries and translated into 7 languages.
Throughout the 1990s, Boutet and Bergeron worked on improving the poor presence of French-language digital content in education. Most notably, they persuaded the publishers of the science magazine Les Débrouillards to release an electronic edition that compiled 10 years’ worth of publications for the education market. In 1995, two more Quebec periodicals, Cap-aux-Diamants and Protégez-vous, were digitized on CD-ROM. The same year, the web site Les Débrouillards went online. In 1997, De Marque made a breakthrough in the French market by digitizing 10 years of archives of the prestigious Science & Vie magazine. At the same time, it began taking steps to market Typing Pal in Europe.
By 2000, De Marque products had about an 85% penetration rate in Quebec schools. Concerned with better suiting the needs of its clientele, the company acquired Septembre Média, a small company specializing in teaching and learning media, which launched well-known media such as Infobourg, an educational web site with daily-updated information and L'École branchée magazine. Typing Pal’s online version also made its debut in 2000. It is now the preferred solution of most school boards.
During the following years, De Marque has been selecting internationally renowned products and adapting them to Quebec’s French-speaking clientele. Among these products is the Inspiration software. Designed and developed in the United States, Inspiration, whose French version was released in 2004, focuses on developing visual thinking and on organizing ideas. Since 2005, the ACTIVboard® has also been part of the family. This interactive whiteboard (designed by the British company, Promethean) takes advantage of the powerful lesson development software, ACTIVstudio, to foster the maximum integration of multimedia tools into the classroom experience and sustain the attention of pupils. Finally, along the same lines, BudgetExpress was created in 2002. Developed entirely by De Marque, it enables children and teenagers to start thinking of the importance of budget planning for making their dreams become reality.
In September 2004, the company launched an online teaching support service named SCOOP!. This web site is available by subscription and provides four lesson plans each week based on current events. SCOOP! provides concrete contexts for using Inspiration and other De Marque products. Adapted versions now exist for teachers in Quebec, Canada, the U.S., and France.
Constantly attuned to the needs of its customers, De Marque is the leader in the integration of learning technologies. The company offers school and business users a wide range of multimedia products to help foster knowledge acquisition and skill development using new information technologies.
De Marque’s products are sold in a number of countries including Canada, the U.S., Mexico, El Salvador, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Australia.
De Marque employs over twenty five people at its head office located in Quebec, Canada as well as in its branch office in Paris, France. It also has a sales team in Montreal, Canada, and in Los Angeles U.S.A.
